Henri Matisse Painting “Open Window”
This painting called “Open Window” was done by Henri Matisse in Collioure, 1905. He mostly attempted to express balance and equilibrium through his artwork. The scene of this painting is of a bunch of blue-hulled boats floating on pink waves, below a sky that is banded with turquoise, pink, and periwinkle. This painting is in the Mediterranean fishing port of Collioure, near the Spanish border. This was one of the beautiful places that Henri Matisse liked to visit in the summers; he first visited here with André Derain, and was amazed by the beautiful scene, that he decided to paint. He was inspired with nature for his paintings, but also for him the imperative was to “Interpret nature and submit it to the spirit of the picture”. Henri Matisse was also influenced by Vincent Van Gogh, for some of his paintings. Van Gogh had "encouraged him to strive for a freer, more spontaneous technique, for more intense, more expressive harmonies." When he painted this picture “Open Window”, he applied his colours differently in the two areas, the outside with the boats, and the inside with the window, and the flowerpots. Some might call this painting “A painting within a painting”. Henri Matisse chose to paint this scene because he liked to paint scenery and this was one of the bore beautiful scenes that he looked at and he wanted to paint it. I chose this painting because I thought it was one of the more unique paintings that I have seen in a pretty w

Movie: “Evan Almighty”
This movie “Evan Almighty” was funny at parts, and also gave a strong message. This movie was about a man who got messages from god that said he had to build an arc for when the flood came. Evan got supplies and pairs of each animal, and built the arc. No one believed that there was going to be a flood, but when the dam broke and there actually was a flood, all of the people believed him. Evan acted as Noah, and this movie was basically based on the story of Noah’s ark. This related to our unit of inquiry because, there was history of Noah’s ark because lots of people knew and know about him. This movie gave an important message, the message mostly describes to keep going. The movie gives this message because Evan keeps on going and is determined that there is a flood coming when all of the people say that there isn’t. He also keeps on going and perseveres when he doesn’t want to build the ark. He asks for his children’s help, and they agree, also all of the animals help to build the ark.
I think that they decided to make this history into a funny movie because they wanted to give out the information. They wanted everyone to know, and to know how, and why Noah did that. I chose to do this movie because I watched it a while ago and I thought that it would relate somewhat to our unit of inquiry. This movie also relates to a personal journey, because Evan/Noah took a life changing journey to build the arc, and to go on with challenges like getting all of the animals along the way. I also thought that this movie was pretty cool, and I think that everyone should watch it because it is historical and entertaining at the same time, and I think that lots of people would like it.
